It is designed to make use of the often-awkward space under the sink by mounting the basket to the door so when you open the cabinet door, the basket moves with the door.
Some models are door-mounted (the basket swings or pulls out with the door), some are side-mounted/pull-out (slides out on rails) but still attached to the door or near the door.
